Aminohapot

Aminohapot ovat proteiinien rakennusosia. Jokainen proteiini koostuu vähintään 100 yhteenkuuluvasta aminohaposta. Erilaisia aminohappoja on 21.
Näistä aminohapoista kolmeatoista keho tuottaa itse (ei välttämättömät aminohapot) ja muita kahdeksaa ei keho itse pysty tuottamaan (välttämättömät aminohapot). Välttämättömiä aminohappoja saadaan riittävästi terveellisestä ja monipuolisesta ravinnosta.
Intensiivisessä lihastyössä tarvitaan kuitenkin enemmän erityisiä aminohappoja. Verrattuna tavallisiin proteiinijauheisiin aminohapot imeytyvät nopeammin ja yksinkertaisemmin. Keho voi käyttää ne heti hyväkseen ja ne edistavät lihaskasvua aivan samalla tavalla kuin tavalliset valkuaistiivisteet.
Muutamat aminohapot esiintyvät eristäytyneessä muodossa (L-karnitiini, L-arginiini) ja palvelevat tiettyjä tarkoituksia kuten esim. edistävät rasvanpalamista tai kiihdyttävät verenkiertoa.

Aminohappoja an saatavilla useissa eri muodoissa: nesteenä, jauheena, kapseleina ja tabletteina. Urheiluravinteissa yleisimmin käytetyt aminohapot ovat L-karnitiini, L-glutamiini, L-arginiini, aminohappo-yhdisteet ja BCAA't.
